Cultural activities and educational visits are important parts of life at Halstead. The school has an enviable reputation for music and drama with a notable record of success in local festivals by choirs, orchestra and poetry recital groups. Educational visits are arranged for all year groups starting in Nursery. Year Three enjoy an overnight stay on the school premises and Year Four and Five girls enjoy an annual residential visit in England. In Year Six girls visit France for a week. Older girls also have the popular option of spending a weekend at an activity centre challenging themselves through abseiling, zip wires and similiar pursuits.
Social awareness is a quality valued highly at Halstead and the House system provides a framework within which girls learn to help others and raise money for their chosen charities.
The school’s participation in the Eco-Schools programme raises pupils’ awareness of environmental issues and pupils grow vegetables and recycle kitchen waste. Girls can develop their persuasive skills and make decisions about the school through their voice on the School Council. After school girls can participate in a wide range of activities to extend the day’s learning; football, photography, art and craft, netball, ballet and tennis coaching are just some of the activities offered. The school also hosts a Brownie pack. Courses, for example cycling proficiency and clubs are also available during the holidays.
