Girls entering Halstead in the term before they are three spend the first four years of their school life in the Pre-Preparatory Department.
Our Pre-Prep has a wide range of facilities to enrich the girls' education. These include purpose-built classrooms, an area for performance, assemblies and indoor play; together with reading rooms, a kitchen and an observation area which may be used by parents. We also have a stimulating outside play area.
Our excellent and dedicated teaching staff are supported by trained Nursery Nurses and Classroom Assistants so that the adult:child ratio is always favourable.
A specialist reading teacher gives one-to-one teaching until the age of seven. Specialist teaching is also provided in drama, dance, music and physical education from the age of three. Laptops and Interactive Whiteboards are used throughout the department to develop ICT skills and enhance learning. Specialist led ICT teaching starts in Year 1.
The 'high level of achievement' attained by Halstead girls 'is based on good standards throughout the school, from the Nursery onwards.' 'By the time they leave the school in Year 6, pupils achieve an excellent grasp of core academic skills' and ' have extremely well-developed knowledge, understanding and skills both in and out of the classroom.'
