Prep
"Pupils make rapid progress and achieve high standards. They are articulate and confident speakers who listen attentively. Recent results in national tests have been excellent".(Inspection Report by the Independent Schools Inspectorate 2010)
At the age of seven girls move into the main school where they are taught in parallel classes. They are encouraged to work more independently on formal academic subjects guided increasingly by specialist subject teachers. However, sport, the performing and creative arts and music are just as important in providing a broad curriculum. All girls have a physical activity session every day including swimming, gym, games, dance and a sports afternoon, which finishes at 4.30 pm and focuses on hockey and netball for two terms and rounders and athletics in the summer term. We believe that sport should be fun for everyone and all pupils over the age of nine are given opportunities to represent the school in sports matches. We also place great emphasis on developing the girls’ confidence and life skills necessary for their future development.
The curriculum ensures girls are well prepared for the transition to Senior School and our pupils are very successful in gaining places to their chosen Senior Schools. Homework is set every day with the exception of sports afternoon. Years Three and Four have the option to complete prep in school on three days a week while prep in school is compulsory for Years Five and Six.
