Introduction
Physical Education is the aspect of the curriculum concerned with the development of physical skills, knowledge and understanding in games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming and outdoor activities.
The Physical Education curriculum provides all pupils with the opportunity to plan, perform and evaluate both their skills, and the skills of others, in all areas of activity. Pupils are encouraged to have a positive attitude towards the subject and have fun, working both in a team and individually. This leads to an all-round physical development and healthy lifestyle, with an awareness of the ph
ysical changes to the body that occur during exercise.
Within the curriculum, realistic competitive situations can be experienced, which will present challenges and give pupils opportunities for the concept of fair play and good sportsmanship to be appreciated. Many pupils will have the chance to experience competitive sport against other schools from Year 4 upwards, and all will be encouraged to attend lunchtime practices to improve their level of skills and understanding.
