A very warm welcome to Mrs Maher, the new Headmistress at Halstead Preparatory School for Girls, in Woking. Born in Surrey, Mrs Maher attended a local girl’s school and went on to study Computing and Business studies in Leeds. Mrs Maher started her career in the City of London, writing software for the London Insurance market, whilst working in the City she completed her MBA at City University/CASS Business School. After fifteen years in commerce, she decided to retrain and follow her lifelong passion to become a teacher.
Mrs Maher has had experience of all age groups in multiple roles at a number of prep schools in Surrey and Central London. Her last role was in a single sex environment and she is totally committed to the benefits of an all-girls education. Her firm belief is that girls thrive where they are challenged to express themselves without limit or constrained by gender stereotypes and where they are not discouraged by mistakes but have the confidence to learn from them. Mrs Maher believes that a girl should not limit her dreams or aspirations and that the benefits of a first-class education should be unlimited. An outstanding education is about diversity of opportunity and installing the excitement, passion, and love of learning into students.
Mrs Maher enjoys spending family time with her husband and two teenage children. Travelling and exploring is a constant theme on holidays encompassing Asia, Europe, and North America. To relax she enjoys long walks in the countryside with her two cocker spaniels - who keep her on her toes!
